In binding techniques from art, science, fiber, architecture, fashion and performance I apply mathematical formulas that enable knitting in circular motions, thus creating 3D objects. In nature the circle, having neither beginning nor end, allows ongoing growth, expansion and movement. This law of nature is the base of my process; I multiply the circle, thus forming sculptures in which this organic vigor resonates.

These ideas where not my point of departure; they emerged gradually from the process of experimenting and creating. I manufacture these sculptures on a knitting machine that engages my entire body in a systematic, repetitive motion and while the objects materialize I can visualize their prospective form and movements. The application of the textile process on non-textile materials, thereby combining the soft elasticity of knitting with the solid strength of metal, creates a certain vivacity and resilience. When worn on the body these autonomous shapes evoke a symbiotic performance, continually transforming form.

In my latest collections I connect these organic, natural forms with the cultural, the engineered, the applied. For the precise and traditional handwork such as embroidery, crochet, folding and pleating I work with needle and thread, which requires a different kind of concentration and awareness, adding an extra dimension to the veils, necklaces and arm pieces. A worldwide cross-cultural connection appears to emerge.
